FASTag is a pre payment tag, applied to your vehicle’s windshield, which automatically allows toll deductions and allows a vehicle to enter the toll point without stopping for the cash transaction. To remove bottlenecks and ensure smooth movement of traffic, the system is being introduced pan-India. The Center Government has however decided to keep one lane as a hybrid lane that will support both FASTag and other payment methods like Cash, Card, Wallet etc.
With a view to promote seamless movement and decongesting toll plazas and digital payments, the government has decided that all lanes in the National Highway fee plazas will be declared as ‘ FASTag Free Plaza lane ‘ by 1 December 2019, except one lane on either side that will be kept as a hybrid lane.
You must transfer money in advance to the FASTag account. There are plenty of benefits to the process-you can save money, energy and the payment is paperless. It is standard and can be built in every tolling square in the country by the Indian National Highway Authority. Now, in an hour, up to 240 vehicles travel through a toll booth. Through introducing the FASTag program, this number will go up to 1,200 vehicles.
The electronic toll system will help reduce speed at the ticket booths while offering comfort of faster movement (up to five times). According to NHAI, every vehicle is currently reimains on toll plaza for 15-20 seconds. Nevertheless, this is not the case in reality, and the wait may be longer. Each vehicle will spend only three seconds in the FASTag System. Since the toll is electronically deducted through the tag, both motorists and toll staff can respire easily.
FASTag is used to decrease the queue time at peak areas. You can save time and fuel because you don’t have to stop at plazas. Moreover, you do not have to carry money to pay the toll as it is an online transaction.
NHAI-initiated trial, including provision for issuing FASTags on – the-spot. Dedicated FASTag lanes were identified and enforced during the trial run. Also. this scheme’s progress is being checked daily by the government authorities. Therefore, FASTag is essential for commercial vehicles as they need to regularly cross National Highway Toll Plaza. For private vehicle owners who cross National Highway Toll Plaza once or twice a year need not panic and hurry to buy FASTag. There will be hybrid lanes to pay the actual Toll Plaza tax in cash.
Starting December 1 the toll will be doubled for all lanes via toll plazas on national highways and for vehicles that do not have electronic tags. The new rule will allow you to travel seamlessly across highway in India without having to stop for paying taxes on your car. The NHAI decided to maintain a hybrid path along the far left lane for each direction where both FASTags and other payment methods are accepted. To support FASTags, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is distributing it free of cost carrying Rs 150 security fees until December 1. Nonetheless, it is up to the purchaser to charge it with the desired amount.
